St. Mary's Cemetery 07/16/2011

St. Mary's Cemetery located in old Korona, Florida is active and well established. I always enjoy seeing artifacts and mementos left by families and friends. It seems to give a little life in an otherwise dreary place.

Even though I'm still a novice at graveyard wandering, I find that the symbols and markers give me much better insight to the deceased.

I started a new section for Symbols, Markers, and Artifacts.

Pellicer Creek Cemetery in Hastings, Florida is well-established and active. I found my first Spanish American War veteran along with a rare Woodmen of the World head stone. Sadly, the rain drove me out before I could properly scout this lovely graveyard. Additional trips are being planned.

Good Hope Cemetery, located in Palm Coast, Florida, is well-established, and active. The cemetery is a mixture of old and new internments, with a separate, gated area for those of the Jewish faith.

My surprise find of the day was this stone:
Picture
William Cochran, Company L, 56th New York Infantry
It took a minute, but then it dawned on me...A Union Army soldier buried in the South? I'm not sure if this is common in Florida, but I will attempt to research the unit and see if anyone is looking for Mr. Cochran.

Espanola Cemetery, located just south of Espanola, Florida is a well established active cemetery. We were able to find some Civil War and WWI veterans, plus a FBI grave marker.
